LG’S FLATRON TECHNOLOGY FOR 100% FLAT

The award winning LG FLATRON range of monitors deliver perfect distortion free viewing from any angle. With improved purity, brightness and crystal-clear contrast, the 100% flat screen monitors are one of the most user-friendly on the market today. And combined with LG's special anti-glare coating, eye fatigue and headaches are radically reduced.

Unlike conventional CRT monitors, the FLATRON screen is perfectly flat. The three surfaces (screen, image and inner) that make up the screen are all 100% flat, ensuring zero distortion and minimal reflection. The unique Flat Tension Mask eliminates doming effect resulting in improved colour purity.

The 0.24mm stripe pitch results in a superbly sharp image. Visible tension wires are eliminated as they run vertically behind the mask on a FLATRON instead of horizontally where they can be seen on other aperture grill models.

LG's FLATRON technology tackles the adverse effects often associated with prolonged monitor use, such as eye fatigue and headaches. It's totally flat screen dramatically reduces reflection because overhead lighting is reflected downwards instead of back into the users face as is the case with standard CRT tube monitors.

LG FLATRON monitors also feature anti-glare and wide band anti-reflective, anti-static screen coatings that reduce the average reflection rate to an industry low of 0.3%. These coatings together with a 100% flat screen diminish primary reflection on the outer screen surface and minimise reflection on the inner screen surface to produce distortion free images.

" With the increasing use of computers in the workplace and in schools, it has become essential for technology to evolve and become safer for prolonged use. Screen reflection and glare are the major causes of eye fatigue and headaches through prolonged monitor use. FLATRON technology significantly reduces screen reflection and glare to help reduce these symptoms" says Mr Shaun Kim, IT Product Manager for LG Electronics.

All models in the FLATRON range, are both Nutek and Energy Star compliant to ensure that power consumption is kept to a minimum. They are also TCO '99 or '95 compliant to ensure all round operator health and safety.

is a 22in LCD monitor that's as comfortable with TV and movie material as it is with PC and games content. It comes equipped with built-in digital and analogue tuners and all the connections you need to hook up a Blu-ray or DVD player, as well as providing excellent PC connectivity and features. This makes it perfect for bedroom use, where it doesn't make sense to have separate screens for TV and PC viewing.

But the M2294D wouldn't look out of place in the kitchen or living room either, as it sports a gorgeous design that puts the majority of PC monitors to shame. The screen is styled with a gloss black curved frame and an alluring electric blue power light, and it sits on an oval-shaped foot that screws into the bottom of the screen quickly and easily. When attached the screen tilts back slightly to create a comfortable viewing angle.

Around the back is a very generous array of sockets. There are two HDMI inputs, which is ideal if you own two hi-def sources, plus two SCART inputs and component video input for analogue sources. On the PC side you'll find DVI and 15-pin D-Sub inputs, plus RS-232 and USB ports for service and control use. Audio sockets include optical digital audio output, analogue stereo input for the component sockets and a minijack input for the RGB and DVI inputs. Overall, an excellent selection.

The presence of a digital tuner not only gets you the entire spectrum of Freeview channels but also digital text, interactive services and a 7-day EPG. Also on board is a range of self-explanatory picture presets, including Standard, Vivid, Cinema, Sport and Game. It comes set to Vivid so that the picture looks good under intense shop lighting so be sure to set up the picture properly before you start watching. To do so, you can adjust the levels of contrast, brightness, sharpness and colour and tint in the Picture menu, but those who require even greater control over their images can access a separate Advanced Control menu that lets you adjust individual red, green and blue colour contrast and loads of other parameters. Having this level of control over picture quality is a real bonus.

LG Flatron M1910A - LCD TV/Monitor

If I were to judge the LG Flatron M1910A solely on its appearance, then it would make it onto our list of favourite flat panel displays. The design is certainly one of the more unique in the 19in class and a number of friends have already commented on how good it will look in their homes. Sadly I had to explain it was mine during the testing period and will be returned to LG once the review is completed.

What makes the M1910A really stand out is the two-tone black and white finish, the chrome stand, and the curvaceous chassis. The black bezel, although not the narrowest, is attractively raised from the white chassis giving it an almost “floating” look. Below this the chassis extends downwards into a sweeping curve and it’s here you’ll find one of the M1910A’s strengths – its speakers.

Yup, surprisingly enough this LCD comes with 3W built-in stereo speakers that actually sound rather good. In terms of bass, they won’t replace a set of surround sound units hooked up to your PC, but when compared to the majority of similarly equipped LCDs, the M1910A has enough volume and clarity to make listening to music or films/programmes a genuine prospect.

Did I say watching TV? I sure did, and that’s because a built-in TV-tuner is also present giving the M1910A a dual purpose function – ideal for those with limited space. It means you can use it as a standalone TV, or connect it to your PC for the best of both worlds.

Using the TV-tuner is relatively simple. After you’ve married the appropriate signal feed to the RF input you can auto-scan for available channels, rename them, and then sort them into an ordered list. There’s Teletext support and a handy remote control too that offers full access to all the M1910A’s picture settings. There are some omissions however, and one of those is the lack of a Picture-in-Picture mode - a shame considering that the Samsung 930MP and most TV-tuner PC cards come with this feature. There’s also no FM radio tuner either, another one-up for the Samsung 930MP.
